A skilled workforce is essential to our economy and when industry and education work together, it creates a direct path to employment for Texans. The Texas Restaurant Association and the TRA Education Foundation have long recognized the importance of workforce development for our industry.

We are heavily invested in supporting educational opportunities for restaurant careers in Texas. Our flagship initiative is Texas ProStart - a two-year, industry based high school culinary arts and restaurant management program. By bringing together an outstanding curriculum, excellent instructors, state of the art facilities and industry support, we are creating opportunities for thousands of students across the state.

The foundation supports instructors in the Texas ProStart program with training and professional development opportunities. We have created a guide that instructs school district administrators in how to Make the Transition from a traditional home-ec kitchen to a full commercial kitchen, and we connect our students and educators with restaurateurs and other industry professionals to act as mentors and resources.

Currently Texas ProStart is in 220 schools, reaching 20,000 students each year. Supporting this growing program requires an annual investment by the TRA and TRAEF of approximately $33 per student.
