TRA's Legislative Affairs Conference Coming to Austin in February 2001November 20, 2000 The Legislative Affairs Conference offers restaurateurs the opportunity to learn about the legislative proposals effecting them and make our voice heard at the Capitol. The conference pushes the industry to the forefront of legislatorsí minds. It is our day on the hill. Held early in the legislative session, February 26-27, 2001, TRA takes the lead by laying out our positions on the issues, concerns and goals to members of the Legislature so they will be familiar with our position when the session gets in full swing. For TRA members and legislators alike it is a great way to create new contacts and reaffirm the relationship between the industry and our lawmakers. For those who may not have taken part in the legislative process, the conference offers a structured introduction to lobbying your Representative and Senator in the company of other restaurateurs. New to the conference this year for those who would like to will be a chance to practice giving testimony in government hearings. The conference starts with an issue update and all participants are giving suggested talking points to use in meeting with legislators. The next morning we get together for a basic primer in "how to lobby" and then go to the Capitol to meet with Representatives and Senators. The whole conference is capped off by a luncheon for all members of the Legislature and the conference participants, which has become one of the events of the session.
