Election Alert

April 2, 2002

If you voted in the Republican primary there is an important run-off election for Texas Supreme Court. Judge Dale Wainwright is opposed by a plaintiff lawyer candidate. TRA members will not be well served by a return to the trial lawyer dominated court of the ‘80s. It is critical that you return to the polls to support a conservative jurist like Judge Wainwright. Early voting starts April 1 and goes through April 5. Election day is April 9.

Here is some background information on Judge Wainwright:

 Appointed by Governor George W. Bush to the 334th Judicial District Court in Houston, Texas

 Elected to a full term on November 7, 2000

 90% approval rating on Houston Bar evaluation poll

 Commissioned by Governor Rick Perry in August 2001 to serve as Justice of the Supreme Court of Texas to hear and determine a pending appeal

 Texas Commission on Judicial Efficiency, appointed to Task Force by the Honorable Thomas R. Phillips, Chief Justice, Texas Supreme Court (1995)

Judge Wainwright is supported by Texans for Lawsuit Reform, the Civil Justice League, the Texas Association of Business, the Texas Medical Association, the Texas Restaurant Association and many other business and trade associations. His opponent has received 83% of her campaign money from trial attorneys. A spokesman for Texans for Public Justice has stated that this shows she “is not locked into a pro-tort reform agenda.”

VOTE IN THE REPUBLICAN RUN-OFF FOR JUDGE DALE WAINWRIGHT.
