A History of Success For Texas

Because of concerned people who are willing to get involved, TRA Government Affairs has been able to accomplish great victories that make it easier for restaurateurs to operate their businesses. Some of the more recent legislative accomplishments include:

• passage of tort reforms and worker’s compensation reform
• defeat of legislation banning employment of teenagers
• defeat of a Houston ballot initiative increasing the local starting wage
• defeat of tax proposals to create a value-added tax, shifting higher taxes onto restaurants
• defeat of mandatory glove use by food handlers
• passage of electric deregulation, resulting in an immediate 6% savings to businesses
• defeat of "living wage" legislation
