Waco Chapter Golf Tournament a Great Success!

May 14, 2012 – The last Waco Chapter golf tournament was in June 2008, and if the attendance at this event is any indicator, it is clear that members missed this annual gathering.  More than 100 players came out to  the Waco Restaurant Association golf tournament on Wednesday, April 25 at Cottonwood Country Club. The event raised over $11,000 for the chapter and other beneficiaries, including Packs of Hope, Meals on Wheels, TSTC Culinary , the TRA Political Action Committee, and the TRA Education Foundation.

Keith Foods and TSTC Culinary provided delicious bites to eat on the course. Other restaurants included the soon to be open Egg & I, Lamar, What About Cupcakes, Crawford Coffee Station and Pei Wei. No one left with an empty stomach or a thirst left unquenched thanks to Ben E. Keith Beverages and Glazer’s Distributors.

The outpouring of support from the entire local community was refreshing, from both our  restaurant community and other business leaders in Waco. Golfers included local celebs, such as McLennan County District Attorney Abel Reyna and KCEN-TV morning anchor Kris Radcliffe. However, their game was no match for restaurateurs from TRA/WRA members Shorty’s Pizza Shack. Not only did Shorty’s have the best game of the day, taking first place at the tournament, they also claim to have the best thin crust pizza in Central Texas!

Of course, none of this would have happened without the sponsors that continue to make special events like this possible. This year’s sponsors were TRA/WRA members Ben E. Keith Foods and Beverages, Glazer’s Distributors, Schmaltz Sandwich Shoppe and Vitek’s BBQ. Other sponsors included Allen Samuels Dodge, Egg & I, July Business Services and Pinnacle Insurance.

It was a well-organized event and a beautiful day” Mike sends a special thanks to Julie Vitek, Kyle Citrano, Mike Kelley, Carmen Gonzales, Ted “Shorty” Browning, Perry Weaver and Dwayne Densman for helping him orchestrate this outstanding event. Mike also sends a special thanks for the excellent burger bar to Doc’s on Main, Mike Kelley with Ben E. Keith Foods and Mark Schneider, along with his team from TSTC Culinary.

Judging from the excitement on the course, it is safe to say this event will be back next year and is here to stay!
