Panhandle Member News

May 22, 2012 – The Panhandle Restaurant Association held general meeting and welcomed TRA President, Lisa Perini to our chapter. We discussed our very successful Taste event called “Restaurant Roundup.” We partnered with Atmos energy and purchased professional gas cooking equipment to replace the very old home econimics electric ranges and ran a gas line for two Amarillo high school culinary programs. The chapter also gave to the Meals on Wheels and the Knowledge is Power scholarships. In addition to the funds, we gave to Randall High School’s Culinary Program for competition. More funding to our other ProStart High schools are on the horizon.
We had around 65 people at our dinner at Ben E. Keith offices in Amarillo. It was attended by the president of the Amarillo Chamber of Commerce, Gary Molberg, Hispanic Chamber President, Dora Chavarria, Mayor Paul Harpole and City Commissioner, Lilia Escajeda. We also had the area's culinary arts teachers in attendance.
