Iconic Texas Restaurants Oral Histories
To celebrate our 75th Anniversary the Texas Restaurant Association partnered with Foodways Texas on an oral history project featuring iconic Texas restaurants. These amazing histories help preserve our industry's heritage and honor those that paved the way for future generations of restaurateurs.
“We are excited to share these legendary TRA members’ stories,” said Richie Jackson, TRA CEO. “Hearing these stories makes us all appreciate the diversity and strength of this industry and we are glad to have had a small part in preserving these for future generations.”
You will be inspired, moved and amazed by these stories. Check out their stories, in their own words on these video clips from four iconic restaurants.
Blue Bonnet Cafe, Marble Falls
Joe T. Garcia's, Fort Worth
Matt's El Rancho, Austin
Zentner's Daughter Steakhouse, San Angelo
Oral histories from TRA members The Big Texan, Blanco Bowling Alley and Mi Tierra Cafe will be posted soon. The complete oral histories are available on the Foodways Texas website.
The oral histories were produced by students in the American Studies program at the University of Texas.
“The Texas restaurant industry is rich with history and stories yet to be told. Thanks to our partnership with the TRA and the University of Texas, Austin, the Iconic Texas Restaurant project has a great start and we hope to continue to bring these stories to the public for years to come." Marvin Bendele, Foodways Texas executive director noted.
