Wylie High School Receives Accreditation

Wylie High School became the first high school in Texas with a culinary arts program accredited by the American Culinary Federation Foundation Accreditation Commission (ACFFAC). Steve DeShazo, CEC, FMP is the Instructor and Executive Chefof the culinary arts program.
By receiving ACF accreditation, Wylie High School meets the standards set by the ACFFAC Secondary Certification Committee in the areas of curriculum, faculty, resources, support staff and organizational structures. These programs assure that graduates will be ready to progress to the next stage in their careers, which may include training toward a college degree at an ACFFAC accredited post-secondary program, participation in an ACF apprenticeship program or placement directly into the industry.
Wylie High School is also an FS Prep program and features a full-service restaurant as part of its culinary arts program. Pirates Cove is open to the public three days a week.
Instructor Steve DeShazo has been certified in the National Restaurant Association Education Foundation’s Foodservice Management Professional™ certification program. The FMP credential distinguishes restaurant and foodservice managers who have achieved a high level of knowledge, experience, leadership and professionalism within the industry.
Chef DeShazo maintains a busy presence in the foodservice industry at large. In addition to developing the American Culinary Federation Foundation’s first accredited high school culinary program in the State of Texas, he is a member of the Board of Directors of the Greater Dallas Restaurant Association and the Texas Restaurant Association Education Foundation. He is also an active member of the Texas Chef’s Association. Chef DeShazo is the 2005-2006 Wylie Independent School District Secondary Teacher of the Year and received the GDRA’s President’s Award in 2005 and a GDRA Special Recognition Award in 2006. He is a Certified Executive Chef (CEC) with the American Culinary Federation and received his Bachelor of Business Administration from Amberton University in Garland,Texas.
