Applications must be received by February 1. TRA’s Board of Directors Scholarship Nominating Committee considers all applicants and announces winners in April.

Scholarships are worth $5000 for recipients attending a 4-year university, culinary academy or graduate program and $2000 for recipients attending a 2-year college.

W. Price, Jr. Memorial Scholarship History
In 1953, W. Price, Jr. was named executive director of the Texas Restaurant Association. In 1972, W. Price, Jr. becomes President with the top elected restaurateur named Chairman of the Board, W. H. "Buckshot" Price. Following his father’s death in January of 1974, W. H. "Buckshot" Price became the Executive Vice President of TRA. In 1975 the Board of Directors vote to rename the state headquarters building the TRA-W. Price, Jr. Building and the W. Price, Jr. Memorial Scholarship was founded.

Qualifications for Scholarship:

  • Student must enroll as a full time student (12 hours or more)
  • Student must maintain his or her full time status during the semesters covered by the scholarship.
  • Student must have and maintain an overall grade point average of C or better and provide a copy of their report card.
  • Student must be a part time (15-20 hours) or full time employee (30-40 hours) in a member restaurant of the BVRA.
  • Student must be in good standing with the university.
  • It is preferred but not required that the application major in business or in some hospitality related field.
